You might say Billy Weaver has purple and gold in his blood. That’s because Billy attended East Carolina University from 1991 to 1993 and is a die-hard ECU Pirate fan. Billy has worked in sports since 1993. He got his first job in television right out of college, as a sports reporter for WBTW-TV in Florence, South Carolina.
After his time there, he worked as the sports director from 1995 to 1998 at WRBL-TV in Columbus, Georgia. There, he won the Georgia Associated Press award for best sportscast. It was in 1998, that Billy came back to Eastern Carolina, following his affection for ECU sports and his desire to work as sports director WITN-TV.
He has been honored for his work by winning multiple North Carolina Associated Press awards as well as awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas.
He currently anchors WITN Sports at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekdays.
Billy played semi-pro football for two years for the Tidewater Sharks in Virginia Beach, Virginia, his hometown. Billy is married and lives in Greenville with his family. He and his wife, Kim, have two children, Ashton and Kaitlyn.
In his free time, he enjoys being with his family, as well as surfing, playing basketball and other sports with his children.
